COVID-19 Updates for the 2020 Indianapolis Race

Email Update - July 26th

INDY SHE POWER 2020
 
SHE Power Half Marathon & 5K is now a virtual event. We thank each of you for all your support, and while we really wanted to cheer for each of you as you crossed the finish line, it looks like 2020 will be a test of our individual strengths.
 
Thursday, August 6th: Final day to select the PACKET MAILING REQUEST. (this option will be completely closed after August 6th.
 
Saturday, August 8th: Final day to use the RESERVATION LINK if you are planning on attending the packet pickup.
 
Sunday, August 9th: SHE POWER PACKET PICKUP ~ To help reduce crowding and to comply with the social distancing guidelines, please reserve a time block using the RESERVATION LINK.
 
You do not need to reserve a time if someone is picking up your packet for you. You are welcome (and encouraged) to pick up packets for friends or family. If you have a group of 5 or more, take advantage of our FASTPASS OPTION (it’s part of the reservation form) and your group will be prepackaged and ready to go.
 
Any packets not picked up by the close of packet pickup on Sunday August 9th will be considered no shows.
 
Social distancing and mask/face coverings will be required per local mandates.
 

FAQ’s

Q: Where is packet pickup?
A: Packet pickup will be held outside the Pan Am Plaza in downtown Indy at Illinois & Georgia Street, (228 S Illinois, Indianapolis IN 46225)
 
Q: Can I pick up packets for friends or family?
A: Yes. To reduce overcrowding, we encourage having 1 person pick up for others when possible. If you have a group of 5 or more, you can use our FASTPASS option and we will have all your packets prepackaged and ready to go. ONLY THE PERSON PICKING UP NEEDS A RESERVATION.
 
Q: What is the final date to have my packet shipped?
A: The option to have your packet mailed directly to you closes on THURSDAY, AUGUST 6TH. All packets will be shipped on Friday 8/7 and Saturday 8/8. You will receive a shipping confirmation email with tracking once your packet has been shipped. (WE CANNOT ACCEPT ANY ORDERS AFTER AUGUST 6TH)
 
Q: When do I need to complete my run/walk?
A: You are welcome to complete your run or walk anytime through the remainder of 2020. It is your choice where and how you complete your event, so even if you decide to break up your distance into multiple pieces, that’s fine too. Information on how to submit your results is on the website and will be printed on the back of your race bib.
 
Q: How do I submit my results?
A: Please use the SUBMIT RESULTS LINK – this link is also found on the SHE Power website. If you include a fun photo with your results, you will be eligible to win several random prizes that we will giving away this summer. All winners and photos will be posted on the SHE Power FACEBOOK PAGE.
 
Q: Can I exchange my shirt for a different size or style?
A: Yes. You will be given the shirt size and style you selected when you registered. If you would like something different, you are welcome to exchange your shirt during the packet pickup hours. (sizes and quantities are available on a first come/first serve basis)

PACKET PICKUP RESERVATIONS:

If you are planning on attending the packet pickup event in downtown Indy on Sunday, August 9th, we are excited to “meet” you all! To help reduce crowding and to comply with the social distancing guidelines, please select a time block below to complete your reservation. (Note: reservations within each time are limited, and each form will close once the cap has been reached.)

You are welcome (and encouraged) to pick up packets for friends or family. If you have a group of 5 or more, take advantage of our FASTPASS OPTION when you make your reservation and your group will be prepackaged and ready to go. PLEASE make sure you are using the name that each person used when they registered, Facebook names are often not correct, and youll want to indicate their sock size as well.

HOTEL RESERVATIONS:

A large number of you have expressed interest in coming to Indy despite the changes in the event. The Omni is not going to cancel the block so that everyone can continue with their reservations. If you HAVE A HOTEL RESERVATION AND ARE NOT COMING, you must contact the hotel directly to cancel.

VIRTUAL RACE:

The virtual race will continue for the rest of 2020, so you may run or walk your distance at any time that works best for you. It is your choice where and how you complete your event, so even if you decide to break up your distance into multiple pieces, that’s fine too. Information on how to submit your results is on the website and will be printed on the back of your bib.

DEADLINES:

While the Virtual Race will continue the rest of the year, you must plan to get your packet no later than the August 9th packet pickup event. So make sure to either elect the mailing option or attend the packet pickup, we cannot ship materials after the close of packet pickup on August 9th.

James and I want to thank all of you for the unbelievable support through all of these changes. This has been an emotional few months and its really difficult not to be with everyone as planned. Please know that all of your encouraging emails and messages mean the world to us, and honestly help us get through some of the more difficult days. But more importantly, continue to do what you can to keep our running community strong. Email Update - July 18th

2020 Indianapolis Update – July 18, 2020

As you may have heard, the Governor has announced this week his plans to keep Indiana at Stage 4.5 for at least 2 more weeks. This shocking news came just as we have been finalizing all the plans for SHE Power Indianapolis. Many of you know that the Mayor of Indianapolis has also been delaying the stage transitions by at least a week past the Governor’s dates. With SHE Power this year hitting a record 1400 Half Marathon participants and another 1200 running the 5K, we can no longer expect to host this event because of this delay.

As a small husband and wife team, we have struggled to keep the events we bring to you moving forward this year. The constantly changing rules and additional delays for restart plans continue to require us to plan and incur expenses, only to be thrown curveballs like this at the last minute. We are asking for your support through this time and while we hope to bring SHE Power back to Indianapolis in 2021, we are no longer confident we can do so.

The 2020 Indianapolis SHE Power Half & 5K is regrettably moving to a virtual event. We have been discussing options with the City since we have already have paid venues, roses, shirts, medals, and everything else for this event. We have developed a plan with the City for a modified outdoor packet pickup on race day. We will be sending additional details and an online sign up form/waiver over the next week, but here is the general plan:

  • Sunday (race day), August 9th, Pan Am Plaza, 8:00am Until 6:00pm
  • We will be limiting the group size for pickup, 45 minute time blocks once per hour.
  • 15 minutes between to allow for people to clear the area and for staff to be able to clean appropriate areas
  • Everyone will be required to sign up online (link will be coming this week)
  • We will be encouraging people use the FastPass option for group pickup to further limit the number of people through the day.
  • We will have all your swag and finish line items, medal, shirts, bag, Balega socks, roses (sorry, we are not allowed to offer the cake).
  • The backdrops will be set up and our photographers will be there, all photos will be posted free to download like we do for the live races.
  • Social distancing and mask/face coverings will be required per local mandates.

We hope everyone understands there is simply no way we can ship everything to everyone, with the weight of your swag, the postage alone would be over $20,000. Since we’re so close to the race date, most of you were planning on attending on race day anyway. If you cannot attend, or feel uncomfortable attending, and you don’t have someone that can pick up for you, you can still switch to the virtual race for the cost of postage ($8… and remember you’re saving a trip downtown and possible parking fees). We will ship your medal, shirt(s), bag, socks… we just can’t ship the finish line rose.
